Kate Lyall is an Organisational Psychologist based in Adelaide South Australia who holds qualifications in Clinical Psychology.

Kate supports adults navigating life’s changes - whether related to work, relationships or changes in physical or mental health. She adopts a pragmatic and collaborative approach employing a range of evidence based interventions to help people overcome mental health difficulties and psychological injuries. She aims to help clients become their own therapist, reach their potential and march to the beat of their own drum.

Kate holds a special interest in workplace issues and psychological injuries, helping people overcome challenges or fears. Her recent work includes supporting adults living with pain, veterans, public servants and emergency service workers, injured workers and people recovering from traumatic incidents.

Kate can additionally provide vocational assessment, counselling and coaching services. She helps people find their niche, play to their strengths, survive study or build confidence for interviews.

Kate is passionate about inclusion and holds a strong interest in how social norms influence people’s perceptions, choices, behaviour and identity. Kate’s work includes providing training and supporting organisations across Australia to develop a more inclusive culture, address bullying, sexual harassment and discrimination. She has worked with organisations across industries including healthcare, defence contractors, finance, engineering and mining. The pinnacle of this work was the opportunity to be the Chair of the 4th Annual Women in Leadership Summit.

Kate’s research experience includes working with Defence Scientists to understand online privacy attitudes to guide the ethical use of social media data. Her Master’s thesis examined the measurement of inclusion in male dominated workplaces across Australia and the implications for psychological safety and employee wellbeing.

Prior to becoming a psychologist, Kate worked for a decade across community services, therapeutic youth work, foster care and child protection. She has studied sociology, counselling, trauma and Therapeutic Crisis Interventions.

In the therapy room Kate teams up with her clients to help them tackle common mental health concerns including: depression; anxiety; specific phobias (e.g. fear of driving or fear of re-injury); social anxiety, awkwardness or dissatisfaction in social relationships; illness anxiety; panic attacks; obsessive-compulsive disorder; grief and loss; low self-esteem; trauma; post-traumatic stress disorder; sleep problems; interpersonal difficulties and relationship breakdowns; problems with managing emotions; adjustment to difficult life transitions; assertiveness skills and boundary setting; effective communication skills; compassion fatigue and vicarious traumatisation; chronic stress and burnout. Kate also works with her clients to define their own life goals, explore their passions, and break free of unsatisfying habits.

Kate adopts adopts a collaborative and pragmatic approach to empower people to overcome challenges, become their own therapist, and march to the beat of their own drum. She uses evidence based practices and draws on trauma focused and trauma informed therapeutic approaches including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT, Trauma focused CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT, Trauma Focused ACT), Schema Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR).

Kate works with adults of all genders.

When she’s not in the office you might find Kate driving a tractor on the family farm.
